The Asia-Pacific economic calendar is light today but features a pair of releases from New Zealand:
- 5:30 pm ET (2130 GMT) February manufacturing PMI, prior 51.4
- 5:45 pm ET (2145 GMT) February food price index +1.9%
Those aren’t likely to be market movers — even for the New Zealand dollar — but we will be watching for comments from a meeting between the US Commerce Dept and Canadian Finance Ministry as they try to reel in rhetoric on trade. Given some of the comments from Lutnick today, I’m not particularly optimistic. I think the US wants to maintain a militant stance until April 2 but predictions about Trump are awfully hard.
Those headlines could come any time and we would expect to see further fallout afterwards.
Update: A press conference (at least from the Canadian side) is expected at 5:30 pm ET.
