‘Not the performance we wanted’

There were more concerns than positives for Frank after a concerning display in Monaco

Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank admitted his side played poorly after picking up a point in a 0-0 with Monaco in the Champions League.

It was a similar performance from the visitors to the one that saw them lose 2-1 to Aston Villa at the weekend, only this time Frank’s men faced a barrage of shots from the hosts.

Monaco recorded over 20 shots in the match but could not find the back of the net, the most Spurs have faced in the competition since 2019.

As such, Frank made sure to praise the Ligue 1 side as well as Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who almost single-handedly earned his side a point and kept the club’s good away record intact.

Speaking after the game, Frank said: “I think there is big credit to Monaco today.

“It was a hard point won. It was a relatively even first half. Second half our performance was not good and Monaco were better than us. It demanded a lot to keep the clean sheet.

“I think Vicario was very good. But it was not the performance we wanted, especially the second half.”

Archie Gray, making his first start in the competition, joined his manager in praising the goalkeeper, who he described as “unbelievable”.

He added: “It was a difficult game. We weren’t at our best. They were on top for most of the game and Guglielmo Vicario kept us in it.

“We always stick together but Vic was unbelievable keeping us in the game. We will learn from these tough moments. I believe this team can do anything. We all believe in each other.”
