22-year-old Alcaraz broke the news on social, saying that he’d have to take some time to let his anke heal.

“I’m very disappointed to announce that I won’t be able to play the Rolex Shanghai Masters this year,” he wrote on Instagram. “Unfortunately, I’ve been struggling with some physical issues and, after discussing with my team, we believe the best decision is to rest and recover.”

Alcaraz, now 67-7 on the season, is the sixth man to win eight titles in a season in this century.

He has 24 titles, and ranks ninth on the all-time list for titles won before turning 23. The Spaniard will turn 23 on May 5th of next year. With his triumph in Tokyo, Alcaraz tied Alexander Zverev for most titles by a player born after 1990 – Alcaraz was born in 2003.
