The Tennessee Titans were the biggest underdog in the league in Week 1.

Even so, their defense did just fine, and they kept it close against the Denver Broncos.

Given all the hype surrounding Sean Payton’s team, this was certainly an encouraging sign from Brian Callahan’s team.

With that in mind, NFL analyst Marc Ross believes the Cam Ward era will get off to a positive start at home:

“Ward showed flashes in his NFL debut at Denver but ultimately struggled to curate consistent offense. Tennessee’s defense, however, held up admirably against Sean Payton’s unit on the road. This week, the Titans host the Rams, whose offense had its own struggles in Week 1. Tennessee’s D holds up again, while Ward notches his first career victory to go along with 250 passing yards and a pair of TDs,” Ross wrote.

Of course, that will be way easier said than done.

While the Los Angeles Rams didn’t look particularly sharp on offense in the first game of the season, we’re still talking about a team coached by Sean McVay.

Matthew Stafford is a proven veteran, and the likes of Puka Nacua, Kyren Williams, and Davante Adams are perennial big-play threats.

They also have a potential Defensive Player of the Year candidate in reigning Defensive Rookie of the Year Jared Verse.

As for Ward, he did flash glimpses of strong play against one of the best defenses in the entire league, so there are reasons to feel encouraged.

Still, the Titans are 5.5-point underdogs at the time of writing, and hoping to get their first win against a legitimate Super Bowl contender like the Rams might be a little too much to ask.

But great things are always to be expected of great prospects, and as the reigning No. 1 pick, that’s what people will want to see from Cam Ward going forward.
