NFL running backs tend to drop in production after the age of 30.
Players at other positions have historically performed well post-30, but this has often been a marker for running backs as a time when they stop playing as well as they did in the past.
Nobody told that to Derrick Henry, however, as he was a freak of nature for the Baltimore Ravens in his first season with them in 2024.
He rushed for 1,921 yards for them last year, providing another rushing threat in the Ravens’ backfield besides Lamar Jackson.
This was Henry’s best season since 2020, turning back the clock and making his presence known.
While the Ravens lost to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday Night Football, Henry had a major impact on the Ravens’ defense, starting the season strong with 169 yards and two touchdowns.
These touchdowns propelled him to sixth place in NFL history, passing Jim Brown, a legendary running back.

Henry will likely surpass Walter Payton soon, as he only needs four touchdowns to make that happen.
He could also pass up Adrian Peterson and Marcus Allen, needing 14 more and 17 more, respectively.
The Ravens’ rushing attack was strong without Henry on the roster, but he’s helped elevate that part of this offense to another level.
Not only is he making history in the process, but he’s proving to the rest of the league and the media that the clock doesn’t stop after 30.
It will be interesting to see how much longer he’ll be able to dominate at this level of greatness.
