Singapore Airlines Group selects Neste for sustainable aviation fuel appeared first on Travel Daily Media Brand TD.

Singapore Airlines Group and Neste signed an agreement to buy 1,000 tonnes of neat Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel at Singapore Changi Airport from Neste’s refinery located nearby, becoming the inaugural carriers to receive SAF produced locally at this airport. SIA and Scoot, two airlines within SIA Group are taking delivery now of SAF from Neste refineries nationwide – creating another milestone achievement by them both!
Neste will blend SAF with conventional jet fuel as per safety specifications, and deliver it in two batches to Changi Airport’s fuel hydrant system – once in 2024’s second quarter and once this year.
Neste SAF will make its inaugural direct delivery to airlines at Changi Airport as they further strengthen their end-to-end SAF supply chain capabilities in Singapore following completion of Neste’s Singapore refinery expansion project in May 2023, making this production facility capable of producing 1 Million Tonnes annually – becoming one of the World’s Largest SAF production sites!
Neste’s Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), composed entirely of renewable waste and residue raw materials, reduces greenhouse gas emissions by as much as 80% over its lifecycle, making blending with conventional jet fuel seamless for aircraft engines and fuelling infrastructure.
Alexander Kueper, Neste Vice President Renewable Aviation said, “Neste is proud that Singapore Airlines and Scoot are our inaugural customers to benefit from our integrated supply capabilities at Changi Airport.” Changi Airport marks an important step forward on our path of supporting aviation industries and governments to meet emissions reduction goals in Southeast Asia. Singapore is an aviation hub of Asia-Pacific region and we hope our delivery of SAF, combined with Singapore Airlines’ recently announced national SAF target, will encourage wider adoption across Asia-Pacific region. Additionally, we look forward to deepening cooperation between us and them and visiting carriers at Changi Airport.”
“SIA Group’s agreement with Neste marks an important step on their journey toward meeting their long-term decarbonisation goal of using at least five percent renewable aviation fuel by 2030, as part of our long-term decarbonisation goals.” Collaboration among stakeholders both locally and globally plays a pivotal role in attaining decarbonisation targets; more sustainable aviation industries ensure future generations continue to enjoy global connectivity, economic prosperity and people links provided by air travel.
Starting May 2024, SIA will make available 1,000 SAF Book & Claim Units (BCUs) for purchase by its corporate travellers, shippers and freight forwarders. Each BCU represents one tonne of neat SAF with associated carbon dioxide reduction benefits that they can claim on flights related to business travel and operations, validating demand and supporting industry development in this emerging space. SIA uses Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials Book & Claim system which ensures traceability and credibility during these transactions.
