Klaus Schwab, founder of the World Economic Forum (WEF), has been accused of sexual harassment and discrimination by former employees.
The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) first broke the story, citing numerous current and former employees familiar with WEF practices as sources. A third female staffer working at WEF events during 2010s stated it was commonplace for attendees at WEF events to approach young staffers at events with advances – often offering to introduce them. Schwab Is Reportedly Discriminatory against Pregnant Employees
According to an WSJ piece, Schwab’s organization may also discriminate against pregnant employees; this stands in stark contrast with WEF articles and whitepapers which emphasize supporting new mothers at work. “After becoming pregnant or giving birth, many women experienced their fortunes change at the [WEF]. Some received harsh critiques of their performances or lost roles just after returning from maternity leave.” At times, they were given temporary jobs or roles they interpreted as demotions; Topaz Smith joined the WEF in 2022 and worked in its New York office – she serves as an example.
