Claim:
Infowars host Alex Jones has officially accepted President-elect Donald Trump’s press secretary role and can serve in that capacity going forward. Consequently, Ratings can now be seen for his claims here and here.
As U.S. President-elect Donald Trump won his November 2024 election against Vice President Kamala Harris, many speculated about who might join his staff. Infowars host and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones had already been proposed by Donald Trump Jr. before any election took place as press secretary candidate – much earlier.
No evidence was present to substantiate Jones’ claim, so his claim could easily have been taken out of context or misrepresented. Furthermore, when approached by Snopes about whether Jones had indeed been selected for that role – no response was received from Trump’s campaign regarding that particular inquiry.
Trump Jr. suggested Jones for this position on his podcast with far-right activist Laura Loomer in 2023: “Alex Jones would do wonders as press secretary; not that everything he says is spot on, but more people listen to what he has to say than anyone in our mainstream media and I know this for certain despite receiving criticism for it – that is reality!”
Jones posted a follow up, suggesting he hadn’t yet received such an offer, while social media personality Ian Miles Cheong replied “Can you guys imagine how funny that’d be?” Jones responded “It would [sic be next level” suggesting this wasn’t confirmed yet but was only considered possible.
Many media reports speculated that Karoline Leavitt, Trump campaign’s National Press Secretary was frontrunner to take up her position.
Jones created headlines in 2012 after falsely alleging the Sandy Hook school shooting had been staged. A number of families from that school shooting then filed defamation lawsuits, and eventually gained court permission for defamation suits against Jones; their litigation resulted in them having to pay $1.5 billion in damages; his personal assets had since been liquidated as well as court ordered auction of Infowars assets to satisfy these judgments; though Jones now acknowledges its truth and plans on appealing them all.
Donald Trump Jr. and Jones may have been making light of taking on Jones as press secretary; however, no official announcements from Trump campaign have yet been made and we therefore rated their claim as unsubstantiated. Our sources can shed additional light.
