Claim: In November 2024, rock band U2 and singer Bob Geldof announced an international multi-stadium tour to benefit Israel’s military forces. (Rating).
After Hamas-led attacks against Israel on October 7th 2023 and amid its subsequent onslaught in Gaza, an online post claimed rock group U2 and singer Bob Geldof would perform to support Israeli military.

There is no evidence to show that U2 and Geldof have planned or announced an official multi-stadium tour to benefit IDF; rather, this claim originated from an anonymous social media account making unsubstantiated statements aimed at misleading or amusing audiences.
However, many posts repeated the claim as fact and called for a boycott against U2 and Geldof. One post specifically read: “Boycott Zionist rock stars like Bob Geldof, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Radiohead, and U2. They all produce terrible music these days anyway!”
On November 4, 2024, this claim first made an appearance on an X account named, “The Real Irish Times,” where its bio read as follows: “Political Satire & Parody: Exposing hypocrisy within Irish media outlets as well as those holding positions of power & influence.”
U2’s tour dates were checked, and we could find no indication they planned on touring Israel or any social media posts indicating where any proceeds of an upcoming tour might go. Geldof will be touring Australia from March and April 2025 but there was no sign that he and U2 might join forces on tour together in support of Israel – had this happened, it likely would have been widely covered in entertainment news outlets.
However, after the Oct. 7 attacks and during an October 2023 performance by U2, Bono paid his respects to Israeli victims of Hamas attacks by dedicating “Pride” specifically for them: early morning October 7 as the sun is rising over a desert sky/ Stars of David took your lives/ But couldn’t take away your pride.”
“Can you imagine?” Bono asked of his audience during this festival of music and peace.
Following recent developments in Israel and Gaza, an Instagram post by the band stated: Amidst all this chaos in Israel/Gaza, writing songs that preach nonviolence may seem unrealistic or irrelevant… Our prayers have always been for peace and nonviolence…

Geldof addressed the Israel-Palestine dispute again during an interview with Deadline on November 20, describing it as being catastrophic:
An undisputable truth is that any mass bombing of children must never happen on any side, from either Russia, Israel, Hamas murderers, and Hamas murders; yet we still see these atrocities occurring even though their existence should never happen; even so, whether Russian bombs fall, Israeli bombs land, Hamas murder happens…and things like having no food available could potentially be solved without invasions into other countries…Therefore causality and moral agency play important roles – thus creating the conflict we see between both ends; thus creating the tension that leads to conflict while trying to achieve solutions between those two in terms of moral agency versus causality when dealing with causality issues related to causality that occurs from both parties involved arguing among these issues! […] So far as causality goes; in reality though these two components exist and disagreeable arguments regarding both these concepts…

This account had also posted many messages supporting Palestine; their post on U2 and Geldof likely addressed criticisms about those artists’ lack of assistance for Gaza residents.
Irish artists have often held U2 and Geldof up as examples for failing to do enough for Gazans despite having built their careers around social justice issues such as fundraising for famine relief efforts or often appearing alongside anti-apartheid leader Nelson Mandela on political rallies over decades.
Irish artists boycotted South by Southwest (SXSW) music festival in Texas due to its sponsorship by the U.S. Army for reasons including support of Israel’s attacks against Gaza, and refusal by military authorities to align themselves with weapon manufacturers (inclusive). For these reasons they staged their boycott!function(f,b,e,v,n,t &s);
