Two teens and two teachers killed during a Georgia school shooting have left behind an immense legacy of sorrow.

Christian Angulo and Mason Schermerhorn, both 14, were killed Wednesday at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia by Richard Aspinwall and Cristina Irimie who both taught math there respectively. Aspinwall also served as an assistant football coach. She remembered when their friend organized children from church for a folk dance at an outdoor festival earlier this year; something Pasch described as tragic: she remembered them calling out at least 30 children during practice sessions to organize one at the festival earlier. Pasch described their friend as someone special: they met twice yearly at church service meetings to plan folk dancing routines during festivals earlier in 2017. In addition, he was married, the father of two daughters, and served as defensive coordinator on Apalachee Wildcats football team. Ariel Bowling, 15, from Apalachee High School has spoken up and described Aspinwall as her math teacher and described him as having been “one of the kindest souls ever. “I would just like people to remember him as being very generous with his time and push you, while being hardworking,” Bowling said of his brother-in-law. John Poitevint, head football coach of Mountain View High School in Gwinnett County near Atlanta, noted Aspinwall served on his staff from 2022-2025 coaching special teams and defensive backs on special teams – until 2022 to be exact – as special team coach/defensive backs coach until their last contact two weeks ago. “He was an extraordinary individual putting himself last,” Poitevint reflected. Poitevint remembers Aspinwall being very humble; you always knew if you needed help, he’d always be there. After hearing of Aspinwall’s shooting shortly afterwards and calling Aspinwall unsuccessfully to contact him directly “I just hoped everyone was okay… Never would’ve imagined this would’ve happened”, Poitevint lamented. “I kept trying to contact Ricky but was met with silence in return. He had long been my closest aide. On Thursday, Robert McCrimmon and Jaden Hunter, 17-year-old seniors at their high school, carried bouquets to honor those lost during Thursday’s shooting incident at school. McCrimmon mentioned to authorities knowing of previous threats by alleged shooter Aaron Long as they remembered classmates and teachers lost in this senseless act of violence. Hunter noted traumatization for many as she expressed uncertainty whether she can return. It seems very sad as something could have been prevented if we knew he said such threats existed prior to taking such drastic actions.”
