In 2013, fishers off Southern California reeled in an unlimited, 11-foot-long (3.3 meters) mako shark. At over 1,300 kilos (590 kilograms), the animal — dubbed “The Beast” — was one of many heaviest mako sharks ever recorded.

Lately, seals alongside the California coast have been discovered with wounds indicating they’d been attacked by giant shortfin mako sharks (Isurus oxyrinchus) measuring over 12 toes (3.6 m) lengthy.
