Claim: An authentic video shared via social media posts showed an impressive crowd at Donald Trump’s rally for U.S. Republican presidential candidate in Salem, Virginia on November 2, 2024. (Rating)
On Nov 3, 2024, a TikTok user posted (archived) a video labeled “Salem Virginia,” purporting to show an immense crowd at Donald Trump rally in Salem Virginia. Audio in the video featured what appeared to be people chanting, “We want Trump!” while Darude’s 1999 dance hit song – Sandstorm- played as background noise.

On Nov. 3 itself, this video also made its way over to X, where an archived post featuring an edited and cropped version credited the TikTok user who originally posted the above video had garnered around 1,200 shares and 4,400 likes as of this writing.
Although neither post specified when or where this video may have been shot, Donald Trump reportedly held a rally in Salem, Virginia three days prior to the 2024 U.S. presidential election that attracted over 7,000 attendees according to FOX affiliate WFXR reporting.
As multiple users responded to this X post, multiple people pointed out in replies that the video in question did not accurately portray Trump’s Nov. 2 rally in Salem — rather it consisted of edited and falsely labeled footage of pop star Chappell Roan’s October 6 performance at Austin City Limits music festival in Austin Texas.
TikTok posts by Austin City Limits (@aclmusicfestival) from October 14th 2024 showed crowd members singing along while Roan performed her song “Pink Pony Club.” That video can be found below.
Chiappell City Limits’ original sound has made an impressionable mark at ACL Music Festival over time – its unique aesthetic standing apart as one of Austin’s favorite events.

Below is an embedded collage, showing frames from Salem Virginia video’s first second and Austin City Limits video of Chappell Roan performing “Pink Pony Club”, both cropped to approximate scale in relation to Salem Virginia video.

TikTok user @rhinomor21 of Austin City Limits posted the “Salem Virginia” video on Nov 3 to inquire whether he created it himself; we will update this story if we receive an answer to our inquiry.
“Salem Virginia” consisted of footage taken at Chappell Roan performing at Austin City Limits music festival with audio of them singing replaced with crowd chants saying “We want Trump”. Furthermore, this video circulated without disclaiming it did not accurately represent Trump rallies – meaning both digitally edited and mislabeled to distort reality; therefore we rated this claim as fake.
We’ve investigated similar rumors regarding attendance numbers at political rallies before, such as one claim that an online photo shared in late October 2024 showed an enormous crowd gathering at one of Donald Trump’s rallies in Woodstock, New York. Here’s another one – these guys say it has almost 1 Million Attendees!!! – for Trumps Woodstock rally
