Once again, here comes the internet… with new challenges awaiting! In all seriousness though, these past couple days I’ve really only managed a handful of hours work… and my back was killing me… so, you’ve probably read enough articles by now to know where this journey might lead. So far though it’s looking positive. The Pittsburgh Penguins had an atrocious week touring Metropolitan Division rivals but ended their mini three-game road trip on a positive note with a 4-2 win against Washington Capitals. Following an embarrassing performance Thursday, Pittsburgh opened up quickly by jumping out to an early lead 2-0 thanks to their rookie goalie between the pipes. Even after eventually surrendering their lead, Pittsburgh held on until late in the third period, with veteran players lighting the lamp to secure two points – something they hadn’t managed earlier this season. Let’s dissect Pittsburgh’s latest victory: Bomqvist Fearless in CreaseAlex Nedeljkovic has started four consecutive games as Penguins goaltender; becoming first Penguins goalie ever this season to do so. Even though he wasn’t responsible for Pittsburgh’s 5-1 defeat on Thursday, LW Patric Blomqvist wouldn’t play both back-to-back games because he needed playing time; last skating against Minnesota Wild on Oct 29. Joel Blomqvist made the difference for the Penguins against Washington Capitals on Friday evening and earned himself his third victory as they earned an unlikely 4-2 win against this “wagon”. * Stopped 32/34* GSAx* save percentage* 2.141 GAA* 12 of 13 high-danger saves * 4-2 win This was easily his finest performance of young career thus far! He represents our future. At 22-years-old, he represents hope. ChelPenguins (@ChelPenguins) November 9, 2024Whether Charlie Lindgren of the Capitals made spectacular saves with his glove to give their team hope or Patric Blomqvist of the Penguins made equally remarkable stops to protect his own team’s chances. Both goaltenders showed impressive save skills; Lindgren displayed his prowess by producing highlight reel stops. Even facing one of hockey’s greatest scorers didn’t intimidate him as he looked unafraid in the crease.Penguins Earn An Important VictoryPittsburgh may only have played 16 games this season so far but none of its six victories has ever been considered monumental wins by anyone in terms of significance to Pittsburgh fans or analysts alike. They managed to win some contests following an extended losing streak before coming up short against Buffalo but managed to force overtime with Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin marking milestones during that game. Yet nothing felt more consequential than Friday night’s clash against Washington Capitals. As the home team was looking to extend its winning streak, the Penguins took control early and earned a crucial 4-2 victory against Alex Ovechkin without him scoring in any games this week. Overall though, this week has not gone well for them so far. As they face some difficult games at home in the next week, leaving Washington should provide them with confidence to perform at their best. Pittsburgh held on for another victory despite blowing another 2-0 lead and suffering yet another comeback from one of the league’s early surprise clubs, Carolina. Erik Karlsson finished minus-3 during Thursday night’s 5-1 defeat, telling of stories of redemption against Carolina. But just 24 hours later, it seemed he’d come out swinging with renewed determination and was intent on rectifying past errors. At 3:11 of game play he scored the game-opener. He then set Michael Bunting up for his second goal of the season with an outstanding feed that only required him to tip in, while Kris Letang earned his first point on their three-game road trip by providing an assist on Malkin’s game-winner — marking both their second goals of six consecutive contests as well as Noel Acciari scoring his own mark into an empty net, sealing their win. Reward was due for Penguins forward Phil Kessel, who consistently did his part both defensively and offensively by blocking shots or making plays in the offensive zone.
