Rudy Gobert has long been criticised by both fans and experts as overrated, yet no one had gone further by directly comparing him with some of the worst players ever to compete in the league. Shaquille O’Neal recently went on a podcast show and named Rudy Gobert when discussing athletes who do not merit praise from within NBA circles.
O’Neal recently took part in Complex’s GOAT Talk program on YouTube channel Complex and was asked, without hesitating, who the worst NBA player of all time is. Without hesitation he answered, without hesitation: Rudy Gobert. Shaq then followed suit by adding, stating Ben Simmons is also quite awful player.
Not for the first time has Hall-of-Famer Jerry Tarkanian openly criticize Gobert; in fact it has long been evident that French center has never been one he respects due both to his performances on court as well as overall attitude.
Shaq gave his insight on this delicate matter by further detailing his view. If someone signs an exclusive contract for $250 million, show me you deserve every cent,” said Shaq. “There’s a reason I walk funny, can’t turn my neck, etc… It’s because of playing hard for $120 million while guys like him take advantage of systems to earn big paydays but then don’t play. Hence why I don’t respect players like him.”
Shaquille assured his audience he was speaking the truth when making such remarks: “Every time I make these comments, people interpret my statements as criticism; however, these are facts; teachers, firemen and doctors all perform valuable services with little compensation,” Shaquille noted.
Shaquille O’Neal offers unique insight on this issue as he was one of the greatest players to ever grace an NBA court, prompting opponents to seek any possible means to take him out of action. Over two decades and six franchises played with, he certainly gained enough knowledge.
He played on defense teams such as Magic, Lakers, Heat, Suns, Cavaliers and Celtics where some of their most notable stars like LeBron James or Michael Jordan would face him off against.
Months prior, this Hall-of-Famer also unveiled their Mount Rushmore Of NBA A**Holes They Played Against Over Their Career.
Recently, former player Shaquille O’Neal made an appearance on The Big Podcast with Shaq and JJ Redick to talk about some of his toughest competition, such as Gary Payton, Kevin Garnett, Alonzo Mourning and Antoine Walker.
Shaquille began by criticizing Seattle Supersonics icon Gary Payton who even joined him for one season on Los Angeles based team, when “Gary Payton was an arse.” Shaq elaborated “I saw Gary talk to my guards about their mothers, wives and kids – that guy really talked smack to all my guards”.

“Kevin Garnett was an arrogant individual; seen him do similar things before,” the big man lamented about a player who became one of only eight Timberwolves to become Hall-of-Famer members for leading them in franchise development.
Shaq concluded his list by noting one player with whom they won a championship together in Miami; then mentioned “Antoine Walker as another one who talks too much”.
