Derek Wills reports: Calgary Flames forward Anthony Mantha sustained an upper-body injury on Tuesday night and did not practice yesterday. Evan Rawal reported: Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar stated he’s ‘OK” before traveling to Winnipeg but remains uncertain of his status regarding playing time.
Jonathan Drouin will not play against the Jets on Friday.
Ryan Boulding: Colorado Avs coach Jared Bednar addressed Gabriel Landeskog. I don’t believe you can call it rehab; rather I think there have been ups and downs throughout his recovery; especially now when he seems closer to playing. As his body responds in different areas he pushes himself further but some experiences might feel good, while other times not at all; nonetheless he continues his work each day and eventually he’ll get back onto the ice.”
NHL Rumors: New York Islanders and Topics for General Managers
Sam Nestler reports Dallas Stars forward Mason Marchment is listed as day-to-day after getting involved in an altercation during a game while visiting Finland.
Derek Van Diest: Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid returned to action last night, just under one week later than expected. Initially it had been predicted he’d miss two-three weeks due to an elbow injury he sustained earlier.
“All I can tell you about it is that it feels really great!” McDavid exclaimed. He did not involve himself with media releases but felt lucky as things began well enough before turning quickly in their favor and ultimately feel amazing now.
Gerry Moddejonge reported: Oilers defenseman Troy Stecher left in the third period after blocking a shot; there was no update after the game. Harvey Valentine reported Nashville Predators forward Tommy Novak did not play due to an upper body injury and didn’t return last night’s match-up against Montreal Canadiens.
Callum Fraser of Ottawa Senators writes, “Ottawa Senators forward Shane Pinto and defenseman Artem Zub could return to action tonight after missing nine games due to concussion injuries respectively, while Pinto missed six due to unknown ailments.”
Dan Kingerski of Pittsburgh Hockey Now reports: Pittsburgh Penguins forward Bryan Rust was seen practicing yesterday wearing his regular jersey after suffering an injury on October 26th that has him listed as week-to-week. It remains to be determined if Rust can suit up against either Hurricanes or Capitals but coach Mike Sullivan believes it likely.
Forward Kevin Hayes did not practice yesterday due to maintenance procedures (upper-body injury). He left Tuesday’s game late in the third.
Lou Korac: St. Louis Blues forward Dylan Holloway shared with Lou: The doctors advised no activity for 24 hours after which point I should be fine to return. My hope is to play tomorrow but we shall see.”
Matthew DeFranks reports: Holloway reported feeling normal following being struck by a puck to his Vagus Nerve and light-headedness; when he reached the bench he doesn’t recall any details from that point in time until being returned there as part of a trade package with Matt Benning recently acquired by Maple Leafs. Ideally suited as an investment opportunity or potential trade candidate.

“Everything got really fuzzy… The next thing I knew, I was next to an ambulance on a stretcher.” Dylan Holloway describes last night’s scary injury and hopes to play Thursday against St Louis Blues #STLBlues pic.twitter.com/pVIQmSMIN0
St. Louis Blues will host their home opener against the Chicago White Sox on November 6, 2024 at home arena Enterprise Bank Arena.

Harman Dayal of Vancouver Canucks forward Dakota Joshua is in contention for tonight. Dan Murphy reported Thatcher Demko of Canucks goaltending team also skated solo before team arrived for practice and may return in LA tonight as well.
Defenseman Derek Forbort and forward Joshua were not on the ice, according to Gerry Moddejonge of Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Ilya Samsonov was absent due to an undisclosed injury requiring two games missed for recovery, Sammi Silber reported Washington Capitals defenseman Matt Roy had been activated off injured reserve (IR).
Tom Gulitti of USA Today writes, “Caps defenseman Jakob Chychrun took part in yesterday’s optional skate after sitting out three games due to an upper-body injury.” Coach Spencer Carbery provided additional insight.
“He is getting close, so tomorrow will be telling as far as what the plan for him will be. Not sure about playing against Pittsburgh (on Friday and then St Louis Blues on Saturday), so we will see where that goes; after we wrap up today I will consult the training staff.”
