There’s been much talk recently of whether or not it would ever pay to invest in property, particularly as more and more of us acquire second homes for investment purposes. So here we are with a chance for growth as people invest in themselves to protect what matters to them most: their families. Denis Poroy/Getty ImagesAfter an impressive season for the Chicago White Sox, Garrett Crochet will reportedly pitch for the Boston Red Sox in 2025, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan. A deal between Boston and Chicago for Crochet may soon be finalized – according to Passan:Sources tell ESPN: BREAKING: Boston Red Sox finalizing trade to acquire lefty Garrett Crochet Deal is in medical domain. Not officially, but trending toward it: Crochet was widely considered for trade prior to the July 30 deadline during 2024 season, yet put an unexpected wrench into those talks by demanding contract extension terms if acquired by contenders and remaining as starter. His move proved brilliant business practice since Crochet made the switch last season from reliever status back into starting role after previously spending his major-league career as reliever. Since many teams were reluctant to give him guaranteed deals because he had short and long-term health concerns, Crochet decided to finish out the year in Chicago where his workload had long since exceeded what had previously been considered his maximum innings pitched total for that career. After All-Star Break however, Chicago did limit Crochet due to exceeding his previous career high of innings pitched total. Crochet’s numbers showed signs of fatigue down the stretch with an 5.12 ERA and 44 hits allowed over 38.2 innings over 12 starts after the All-Star break – yet overall he remained one of few bright spots for an otherwise disastrous White Sox team which lost an MLB modern-era record 121 games! Crochet represented them at All-Star Game 2023 and finished fourth among AL pitchers with 209 strikeouts in only 146 innings pitched – fourth outright among AL. Prior to 2024 campaign he pitched total 73 innings across 72 relief appearances from 2020-2023 (73 total innings total in 72 relief appearances from 2020-2023) before joining White Sox organization as starting pitcher / reliever from 2020 to ’23 (72 relief innings and 72 appearances total). Given White Sox dire financial state it seemed prudent that maximize Crochet’s trade value as early as possible since there would likely be significant payroll reduction plans already planned in place by other teams (such as Chicago). Red Sox’s farm system is steadily improving, though not quite on par with MLB. Crochet may pose an increased risk as a starter due to his limited track record; however, based on his success during his four month debut last season suggests there could be plenty of upside to tap for Boston. Crochet, born April 28, 1992 and recruited as No. 11 overall pick in 2020 by Boston Red Sox from Florida Gators High School is just 25 years old and four years removed from being chosen No. 11. Crochet still has two years under team control with Boston before any long-term contract agreement can be finalized with them; his upside equates to that of being selected No. 1. He could become Boston’s No. 1 starter if he can reproduce what worked at the start of last season while having access to an improved defense behind him. One issue facing Red Sox attempts at returning to playoff contention in the AL has been their limited depth in their rotation; Tanner Houck had an exceptional year last season posting an 3.12 ERA over 187.2 innings pitched; but in that span only 5 of their pitchers made five or more starts, earning sub-4.00 ERA’s; only Houck achieved this distinction among their starting five-man. Brayan Bello improved after an initially disappointing showing, posting a 3.47 ERA after the All-Star break (5.32 before). Crochet comes with plenty of risk as his track record as a starter spans just one season; but his upside can make this move worthwhile for Red Sox team that will likely keep control over him through two more seasons. To become competitive again by 2025 in their AL East division however requires continued dedication by Red Sox front office but they appear willing to make bold moves when necessary to achieve that goal – at last!
