The Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Friday night, 3-1, at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Here are some takeaways…-Luis Severino looked sharp in his second start of the spring. After allowing a leadoff double to Luis Arraez to start the game, the Mets right-hander settled in, retiring the next seven batters he faced, striking out three of them before allowing a base hit to Christian Bethancourt in the third inning.Arraez followed with a single to set up first and second with one out, but Severino struck out Josh Bell looking at a 1-2 changeup and got Jake Burger to ground into a force out at second to end the threat.Severino’s night was done after three innings, allowing three hits while striking out four. His fastball reached as high as 97 mph as he looks to regain his old form for the start of the season.-Francisco Alvarez continued to flex his power at the plate with his third home run of the spring. Alvarez turned on an inside fastball from Eury Perez on the first pitch of the fourth inning and sent a towering shot down the left-field line to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.Alvarez also doubled in his first at-bat of the night, finishing 2-for-2. He is now 5-for-14 (.357) this spring with four walks, five RBI and a 1.541 OPS.-Pete Alonso got in on the home run action as well, blasting his second dinger of the spring in the sixth inning off Andrew Nardi. Alonso ripped a hanging slider 410 feet to center field, extending the Mets’ lead to 3-1. Alonso is 6-for-19 (.316) with two home runs, two RBI and three walks this spring.-In addition to Severino, Jose Butto also looked good on the mound over three innings of work. He allowed one run – an RBI single by Arraez – on three hits but also struck out three in his third appearance of the spring.-Jose Iglesias had himself a nice night getting the start at short for the Mets. He went 2-for-3 at the plate, including an RBI single on a chopper through the right side of the infield to put the Mets up 1-0 in the second inning. He also flashed his defensive prowess, cleanly fielding a soft hopper from Bryan De La Cruz and getting him hustling down the line at first with a quick release, with some help from Alonso who made a nice scoop at the other end.-Trayce Thompson has been a “pleasant surprise,” according to manager Carlos Mendoza, but on Friday night the journeyman outfielder cooled off a bit. After starting the spring 5-for-10 with two home runs, Thompson finished the night 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.HighlightsUpcoming scheduleThe Mets resume action on the road Saturday at 1:05 p.m. when they take on the St. Louis Cardinals at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.Sean Manea will take the mound for his second spring start opposite former Met Steven Matz.
