Here is what investors need to know as they begin their trading day:1. Another Day DownThe S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were down again today, continuing a disappointing start to trading month. This Wednesday’s broad market index dropped 0.16%, ending its session at 5,520.07. Meanwhile, tech heavy Nasdaq fell 0.3% and settled at 17,084.30 while Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.09% finishing at 40974.97 and providing live updates 2. Labor Department’s Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey indicates there were 7.67 million available positions in July – 237,000 less than revised numbers from June. July’s opening total marks the lowest figure since January 2021. Dow Jones reports that economists had anticipated 8.1 million layoffs during July; these totaled an increase of 202,000 from June. “The labor market has reached the point of no return and gone beyond it,” noted Nick Bunker of Indeed Hiring Lab’s economic research department. No policymaker at the Federal Reserve should want for further cooling at this point.”3. Scoring Returns | Getty Images The National Football League has generated huge returns for its owners over time, yielding millions in returns for owners each season. Today’s average team is worth an estimated value of roughly $6.5 billion thanks to media deals within their league and higher valuations for original investments than those seen from traditional stocks. Owners have seen greater returns through initial investments with these teams than traditional stocks have provided them. Seven of the past ten NFL teams sold have outpaced the S&P 500 by more than 20% since being sold, both in terms of percentage gains since being purchased and overall results since sale took place. Washington Commanders and Denver Broncos were sold within the past two years; Miami Dolphins last traded hands during 2009 when markets were still recovering from 2007-08 financial crisis. All three teams were ranked 13th, 14th and 8th on CNBC’s Official 2024 NFL Team Valuations list of teams. Here is how the remaining ones fared:4. Not Subpoenaed Nvidia is refuting reports that it received a subpoena from the Department of Justice as reported by Bloomberg and shares of the chipmaker subsequently declined, after being subpoenaed as part of an antitrust probe. “Nvidia has inquired with the U.S. Department of Justice but has yet to receive a subpoena,” an Nvidia representative informed CNBC. “However, we welcome any inquires regulators may have regarding our business activities.” On Tuesday, Apple shares had dropped over 9% and its market cap decreased almost $300 billion, prompting analysts to call Apple “dying.”5. They are alive! In Disney and Pixar’s “Inside Out 2,” Riley’s sense of Self is made up of all her beliefs which she can express by plucking a string.
