Hunter Biden will change his plea on federal tax charges against him.

Hunter Biden plans to change his plea in federal tax charges filed against him, according to attorney Abbe Lowell on Thursday. Biden announced this change shortly before jury selection was due to begin for his second trial this year. Under that agreement, Biden would have entered a plea bargain that included misdemeanor tax offenses with six month probation recommended as punishment and any charges of buying guns while using illegal substances would have been dropped within two years if Biden avoided further legal issues. According to U.S. Senator Edward Markey (D-Mass. ), when Biden agreed to this compromise agreement his criminal charges related to buying firearms while under the influence of drugs would also have been dismissed in two years provided Biden avoided further legal issues. District Judge Maryellen Noreika had denied signing off on this agreement because it “contains several unconventional provisions”, she explained in 2017. One component of Biden’s deal could have protected him from prosecution on other tax crimes; however, his attorneys and prosecutors were unable to come to an agreement, leading David Weiss’ office in California and Delaware prosecutors to indict Biden for gun charges related to addiction as well as expanded tax charges in both states. Furthermore, evidence regarding Biden’s past of addiction was central to another prosecution conducted earlier this year in Delaware by Weiss’ office, in which Biden eventually was found guilty on three felony counts related to possession while using drugs (he will be sentenced Nov 12 and intends on appealing his conviction).
