PNW. Whether tipping is essential is unknown. Our recommendation would be as follows. For tipping movers (of any sort, including furniture removalists and gardeners etc), give 15%-20%. For an experienced mover like Jill who will bring up her full load for you: PS70-100 per move (based on experience, depending on weight of items carried and distance traveled vs chargeable cost = $95): PS45-595 + tip + 18% GST=788 am.
Just last week we completed an approximate 100 mile move using four professional movers who worked tirelessly from 9am until 10pm packing, loading, unloading and installing our furniture – no damage occurred at either end! Cost was $5k with donuts provided as energy boosters at start and lunch provided during journey as we provided donuts at lunch time for energy. Each member received $100 tip from us plus extra for their leader before continuing driving back two hours home, arriving home around 1am each night; making for one very tiring day of work!

At Consumer Forum we frequently field queries such as these from consumers: | Car? Used Toyota, Lexus or Miata. | House? 20% down with 3x salary required of renter (no vacation house permitted). | Umbrella = $1 Million for Goods at Costco and so forth.

If I were careless in doing my job I could probably get asked to leave without being provided snacks and refreshments as part of their benefits package to feel physically ready – that responsibility falls solely onto an individual and they must come prepared – before showing up well rested and refreshed at work every time!

Wow. Seriously inaccurate comparisons here; everything seems to boil down to who can provide their service at an inexpensive rate and those who won’t. Although I have not hired professional movers myself, when our new washing machine arrived and installation happened during an exceptionally hot 100 degree day on which delivery men did their installation I made sure to tip generously; with regards to professional movers I would tip even more.

Wow. These comparisons are absurd! This seems to boil down to people being either too cheap or not cheap enough. Though I have never needed professional movers myself, when the deliverymen installed and set up our washing machine on an 80+ degree day in Minnesota they tipped generously; something which should apply more for professional movers too.

Paying one’s due is never cheap.

What Are Silly Comparisons Making subjective judgements on how people are paid (their total compensation plus benefits amount, which can often remain unknown), relative to their quality of life at work is silly compared to passing judgement based on your arbitrary evaluation based on emotional considerations alone. Tipping should only ever be done as part of an emotional response if that’s how it feels for you – nothing else needs be said here!

At military moves, customers are strictly instructed not to tip their movers.

Are they saying they will not reimburse tips, or has the government included extra for tips in your contract? I know the federal government can sometimes be cheap; when they initiated their Uber program they weren’t providing reimbursement of tips; unsurprisingly Uber drivers stopped accepting those jobs due to this decision and our Feds weren’t being picked up! Eventually though government bean counters got wise and now reimburse up to 15% per ride sharing job taken on.

Both. Military families will tell you they won’t reimburse and simply won’t do it because not all can afford a tip during such an unpredictable PCS deployment process. Therefore, don’t set expectations with movers in advance and don’t set yourself up as expecting this service provider will expect that amount as a tip from civilian families either! I hadn’t known tipping was common practice with civilian movers until just recently!

Serious Question – Should Movers Receive Tips to Do their Jobs? Or Would Roofers, Dentists, Auto Mechanics and Cashiers at Home Depot Need Tip To be Paid Their Fees?

“I won’t tip a mover; instead, I will pay what has been agreed upon in exchange.” That was what I did last time I used movers.

Seems suitable for Mets fans

My two kids will be moving apartments this weekend and we hired a recommended mover with three guys plus driver; our estimated 5-hour job cost around $925; so, how should we tip them?

I would tip them each 50 – 75 dollars each if they were polite, willing to listen, and did an outstanding job.

Thank you, Afr! I merged his thread into this one (thanks to the member who reported his post and provided this thread’s link.).

At some points of view, the glass may look half empty; and at others still it could even seem half full; to an engineer however, however, two times larger is what’s necessary. obgraham

How Much to Tip Mover (in USD) By Obgraham on Thu Sep 5 2024 10:20 pm. Post 1664
Wait, What?I am planning a cross country move involving packing, loading, driving and unloading at an estimated total cost of $12,000. Are some of you suggesting I pay an additional tip of $2,000? Personally I do not believe so!
