“I feel better,” Wiggins noted after taking time off last week for more practice sessions and recuperation. However, Wiggins will not play Wednesday and continues his return from injury with additional rehabilitation sessions scheduled in. Wiggins remains undecided if he will play either of those two games; Kerr has, however, stated he’ll likely be cleared before their regular-season opener against Portland on Oct 23. “Not quite yet,” Wiggins stated, relying on his training staff and allies for guidance when the time was appropriate. Although frustrated to miss all four practices in Hawaii and Saturday’s win against LA Clippers, he ultimately expressed satisfaction at having chosen this path of recovery over those offered elsewhere. As other players enjoyed themselves at the beach and relaxing with family on Hawaii’s North Shore, Wiggins focused on getting rid of his cold.He was also working to stay ahead during an important few days as Kerr introduced new terminology and installations into an offense set to undergo changes this season – Kerr wasn’t concerned at all when asked in Hawaii whether that applied to Wiggins at all. Wiggins wasn’t bothered that his mask made an appearance while taking free throws at training camp practices and sitting on the bench during games; neither does it appear that they’re worried. “With still some time before our regular season starts, and now back at practice I am just going through everything,” Wiggins stated. “Our coaching staff are great teachers so I’m trying to learn and figure this stuff out as quickly as I can. In Hawaii I was watching closely so hopefully these lessons have stuck.” Not that I felt I was falling behind or anything; yes, being part of the drills made it easier than watching from a sideline, but my vantage point gave me plenty of opportunities for learning and insight into practice sessions. “During Tuesday’s open practice session for media members, Wiggins participated in 1-on-1 drills at various points on the court under coaches Jacob Rubin and Jerry Stackhouse. Players included Gary Payton II, Moses Moody, Kyle Anderson and Kevon Looney.” Spirits were high and competitive juices flowing. Payton often outwitted his teammates on defense, including wiping away Wiggins on two consecutive possessions in the post. What may have been Payton’s first successful shot on goal was Wiggins making three from outside of the arc quickly and convincingly. “We’re just here to get better together,” Wiggins stated. The intensity of Stackhouse, who earned two NBA All-Star selections during his 18 year playing career and 49 year old today has already made its presence known – even participating in some drills himself! “He’s very competitive,” Wiggins noted, noting how his presence only added another competitive edge for them to deal with on the court. He enjoyed participating in 1s, too – something Wiggins found very pleasant indeed! Added Wiggins: “Having him around makes for great energy on court! ” “When not playing directly himself he could often be heard shouting out “That’s a battle!” as an applaud for hard-nosed play and hard hits from opponents alike! He knows his place with them he would yell out “That’s a battle!” as applause came his way he often applause in appreciation a hard hit from opponent who went after one opponent while not directly competing themselves: Wiggins described him as highly competitive; adding that although “he can still hoop with us some other times; which happened more so with 1s. It’s great having him around!” Wiggins added: Wiggins was welcomed with open arms into Dubs Camp as an invaluable addition. “Playing in preseason will have to wait at least several more days; while in practice he continues making strides forward while fighting off an ongoing cold.” You can download and follow Dubs Talk Podcast here for updates!
