On Nov. 1, 2024, former U.S. President Donald Trump experienced difficulties with his microphone at a campaign rally in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. When complaining to his audience of it not working correctly, many on social media who shared clips claimed he mimed an explicit act with it instead.
As “Saturday Night Live’s” Colin Jost politely put it, Trump complained about his microphone while miming doing something particular to it.
Snopes readers who saw this clip emailed in to inquire if it were real and whether Trump actually mimed performing oral sex using his microphone, as claimed.
C-SPAN makes available this clip and does not provide an definitive answer as to what was happening between Donald Trump’s remarks about using microphones as well as any use made of them by Trump himself during their dialogues.
Moment came nearing the end of four-minute digression brought on by crowd chants to “Fix the mic.” Donald Trump, having earlier removed it from its stand and complained of having to hold onto it himself, claimed his arms would “blow out” from holding it as well as his voice from speaking too often and too long. Trump asked those present if they wanted to see him hit people backstage harder before asking: “Want me to knock some sense into you backstage?!”
At the alleged start of his miming act, Donald Trump held the microphone away from himself and leaned down toward the podium, almost inaudibly complaining that the mic stand was “too low,” before taking hold of it with one hand and moving it from side-to-side while bobbing his head back and forth while keeping his mouth wide open – this act could easily have been misconstrued as mimicking sexual acts but may simply have been unintentional on Trump’s part. His audience laughed and cheered him along!
Trump’s team provided no further insight. Since we don’t know his thought processes as he performed these actions, it is impossible for us to confirm or refute reports claiming he mimed a sexual act while speaking at one of his campaign rallies. Sources reported otherwise.
