Sharks rookie Celebrini’s multi-goal game filled with symbolism first appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area. Sports can often provide us with beautiful moments infused with poetry that transcend the present with long-term significance. Celebrini was among those providing us such moments. NBC Sports Bay Area published Celebrini’s performance. Macklin Celebrini scored his inaugural NHL multigoal game Thursday during San Jose’s 5-2 defeat by Minnesota Wild at SAP Center – doing it against legendary goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury who will soon celebrate his 40th birthday and who Celebrini scored twice against. It marked Celebrini’s NHL debut and confirmed him as San Jose’s number 1 pick from 2018. At 18 years old and age 18, Celebrini stands as NHL’s youngest player while Fleury, on whom Celebrini scored both times, is projected as future Hall-of-Famer due to age (40th birthday in late 2018). As in every sports movie you have ever watched, this scene could almost serve as the metaphorical embodiment of any new generation facing an unprecedented opportunity to lead their respective era forward. Macklin Celebrini (only 2006-born player in NHL), just scored on Marc-Andre Fleury (1984 born player). Celebrini may have lamented his team’s ineptitude on Sunday night, yet rookie Jonatan Fleury may well be entering what could be his final NHL season and enjoying facing Celebrini was an experience Celebrini took advantage of to remember fondly. Celebrini noted, “he has been playing longer than me… it has been amazing watching his career unfold from Pittsburgh through Vegas to Chicago and now Minnesota. “Scoring was supposed to help our team win, and that didn’t happen.” Celebrini is San Jose’s youngest player but that doesn’t dim his competitive spark one bit. Celebrini has already proven his worth as San Jose’s greatest asset during just his first month with the NHL club. By deflecting individual praise toward teammates instead, his place as San Jose’s cornerstone continues to be cemented. On Thursday’s loss, Celebrini may have felt the sting of defeat but perhaps one day will remember this memorable night as being one in which he lit multiple goals against one of the finest goaltenders ever in Fleury – having experienced that special feeling when lifting Lord Stanley’s cup himself! While Fleury may now be winding down his incredible NHL career, Celebrini’s has only just begun.
