Beyonce announced her intent to boycott concerts held in red states that supported President-elect Donald Trump after the 2024 presidential election. Withdrawn. Ratings:
Rumors spread online in November 2024 suggested that singer/songwriter Beyonce announced she was forgoing hosting concerts in red states — those which supported President-elect Donald Trump and are seen by Democrats as voting Republican.
Users spread this rumor in the days following Trump’s reelection victory, noting Beyonce had supported Democratic VP Kamala Harris’ presidential bid back in October.
On Nov. 9, 2024, 300 Guns Facebook page published an archived meme reading “Beyonce and other music artists plan to stop performing in Red States”. This post displayed an image showing all U.S. counties where officials purportedly predicted Trump would win in 2024 election.
SpaceX Fanclub and The Patriots Lovers both posted similar memes that day: Beyonce Announces Red State Boycott: ‘I Won’t Perform There'”. Additionally, Beyonce closed down concerts in red states while also declaring she no longer feels at home in “This Isn’t My America”
Numerous users on social networks such as Facebook, Instagram, Threads and X shared this rumor that Beyonce might make her announcement soon.
One Facebook commenter supporting Harris’ claim noted: “That will significantly diminish her performances.” Another person commented “Their loss, not ours!” yet another wondered aloud if celebrities supporting her weren’t all leaving America?
As no record was available of Beyonce ever saying she intended to stop hosting concerts in red states, we assessed this rumor as false.
Social media commenters noted her birth in Houston – in Texas – a red state which only recently went blue for presidential elections during 1976. Furthermore, many mentioned the release of her first country music inspired album in March 2024 as something to keep an eye out for in red states.
Rumor Originated Prior to Satire Post Creation
All three Facebook pages mentioned earlier contained information claiming their content consisted of satire and parody, while SpaceXFanclub and The Patriots Lovers both showed information linking them with SpaceXMania’s network of satirical posts; yet in truth the rumor began long before these satirical pieces appeared online.
We were able to locate various online posts from November 8 that propagated this rumor, some which preceded even this user’s Facebook post by hours or minutes. Most of them read something along these lines: “Beyonce and other musical artists plan to stop performing in Red States.”
One user on Nov. 8 who received hundreds of responses later deleted it – but not before another Facebook user copied and pasted its contents directly from it into one of their own posts, according to our research. According to our findings, that user created their post after reading some or all of those linked above.
