Claim: Los Angeles boasts several secret, underground Starbucks shops serving celebrity clients free drinks located under the city. Rating:
Rumors spreading via social media in October 2024 that Starbucks held secret locations deep underground of Los Angeles only accessible to elite members of society circulated.
Claimants also claimed that celebrities use these tunnels to bypass traffic congestion, with Oprah, Will Smith, and Jerry Seinfeld among the celebrities using them to do just that. Furthermore, secret coffee shops operating within these hidden passageways allegedly offering complimentary beverages to celebrities such as them – Oprah included.
One TikTok user uploaded a video claiming Seinfeld ordered an almond milk double shot latte as his go-to coffee order. Steven Randolph of Foxy Play Productions (“Steve Randolph Invite Only Starbucks for Elite Audience”; #losangelestraffic #inviteonly #starbucks #losangelestraffic), provided us with this exclusive invite-only Starbucks invitation only event and recorded original sound by Steven Randolph himself!

TikTok users responded to this clip with comments such as, “I always wondered why I hadn’t seen Seinfeld while driving; until now I assumed it was because of living in New Zealand – now this makes more sense!” Another user posed this question: “Have you ever noticed any celebrities driving around cities with over four and a half million inhabitants but have yet to spot one?”
One person commented simply and humorously on raising podcast equipment prices; most found his statement to be amusing in its intent.
This claim first surfaced via Steven Randolph, comedian and social media influencer. On or around Oct 16 2024 he posted the video showing what appears to be an interview of former Starbucks employees from one of those stores who stated, among other things:
Have you ever noticed there’s a Starbucks that no one’s heard of or visited? Have you been driving through Los Angeles and wondered why Will Smith has never been seen stuck in traffic on the 405? The reason lies within Los Angeles itself… there is an underground tunnel network known as “the Actor-Bahn”, giving actors access points so they don’t get stuck in traffic on any route at any point – these tunnels also house Starbucks locations to give actors coffee breaks while driving!

When asked by the host to name specific individuals, one guest named Jerry Seinfeld, Oprah and Bono as having visited this “secret” Starbucks; when queried further about their beverage of choice by Seinfeld he noted “Almond milk latte with two shots”. According to this individual there would not have been tipping as they didn’t pay for their beverages themselves!
Bill Posley is an actor, comedian and former “Survivor” contestant who posted this interview video onto his social media accounts as well.
Additionally, they’ve uploaded other similar videos, notably an amusing conspiracy theory about Costco taking customers’ DNA for commercial gain while Posley serves as an ex-worker.
A spokesperson from Starbucks confirmed via email that any claims of hidden underground Starbucks locations were false.
There may be truth to reports of underground tunnels dating back to Prohibition-era Los Angeles, according to Atlas Obscura: an “international community of explorers that has come together to compile an expansive database of amazing places and foods”.
Even during prohibition laws, 11 miles of service tunnels became access points to speakeasies with inconspicuous facades below ground. Patrons were free to move about freely underneath LA, drinking and partying without fear, while the Mayor’s office handled supply… In addition to service tunnels, abandoned subway and equestrian tunnels remain from before personal vehicles took up residence on LA city streets. There have been stories about police using underground tunnels to transport prisoners, bank security for moving large sums of cash safely, coroners for body storage purposes and both coroners and mobster storing bodies. Although most tunnels have since been shut off to public access, some remain accessible as film locations or convenient shortcuts between buildings; runners even utilize them on rare occasion as training grounds during inclement weather conditions.

Snopes has conducted exhaustive investigations on several claims concerning L.A., such as freeway chicken sightings and math test questions administered at UCLA; as well as another underground tunnel rumor linking Diddy’s house with that of Playboy Mansion. (!function(f,b,e,v,n,t,s)).
