Unfortunately, they have an unfortunate habit of falling through. If that was ever going to change?! (AFP/Getty Images)Alisson Becker remains unchallenged as Selhurst Park kingpin, but Liverpool have shown in Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk how their title bid will be built this season at Selhurst Park with victory at Crystal Palace under Alisson Becker and van Dijk’s tutelage – including in their win at Selhurst Park against Crystal Palace this month – that their future ambitions lie elsewhere this summer. In November 2014 Mile Jedinak completed victory for Palace against Liverpool when Mile Jedinak scored from free kick with Mile Jedinak sending in his free-kick past Simon Mignolet with ease before Alisson arrived from Brazil! Clean sheets were in abundance on either side of the international break and comfortably the best defensive record was easily their result. Unfortunately, Alisson could succumb to injuries sooner rather than expected and so his replacement will likely need to be found quickly. Caoimhin Kelleher often steps in as Caoimhin is frequently absent for certain classes and exams. So when Alisson went down again with 15 minutes remaining and Palace pressure was building up, Arne Slot was forced to turn to Vitezslav Jaros as an unlikely third option despite him not playing competitive games previously for his club. To be clear: Jaros is no rookie. At just 23, he had already represented Czech Republic senior internationally before moving to Sturm Graz last season where he excelled as the team won both domestic and European competition. Eberechi Eze made one critical save to complete what Alisson started, sealing a clean sheet for Liverpool while leaving Palace winless in the Premier League table despite an early kick-off kickback chant from home supporters who began the match optimistically. As they continued their struggle against Jota’s goal-scoring exploits in the first period, their opponents outmatched, outplayed, and outworked them throughout the remainder of it. Yet Jota should have had his hat-trick by the hour mark when from similar position as when scoring, miskicked wide from low cutback towards him from mistakingly miskickering wide with low shot from distance towards goal from Jota himself! So will Liverpool follow an incremental succession plan, or opt for an immediate switch from Alisson? Either way, Liverpool require Mamardashvili to be more reliable both physically and technically than Alisson; few players could match him at their current ground in that respect.
