On Saturday night, House Representative Angie Craig of Minnesota officially asked Biden to drop out. “This decision wasn’t taken lightly; however, too much is at stake to risk another Donald Trump presidency,” Craig stated in his announcement early Saturday morning. “That is why I respectfully urge President Biden to step aside as Democratic nominee for another presidential term and allow new generations of leaders to rise up,” Craig writes in his post on Facebook. Craig becomes the fifth House Democrat calling on Biden to leave office. Rep. Mike Quigley of Illinois made his own announcement during an MSNBC interview Friday – before ABC News broadcast their 22-minute interview of Biden. They join a growing number of Democratic lawmakers, donors and strategists who no longer trust Biden to run an effective presidential bid against Trump. Representatives Lloyd Doggett of Texas, Raul Grijalva from Arizona and Seth Moulton from Massachusetts have publicly demanded Biden step down. “President Obama can rightly be proud of what his record has accomplished,” commented David Axelrod who served as senior adviser during Obama’s term in office after watching an ABC News interview featuring Biden on ABC News. “But he remains dangerously disconnected from what people worry about in terms of his capabilities and standing. “Earlier this week, former Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Jim Clyburn from South Carolina who have long supported Biden have publicly validated concerns regarding his fitness for reelection as vice president.” They stated: “We need to move beyond gerontocracy!!” Galaxy CEO Michael Novogratz, a crypto billionaire and Democratic donor, made an important statement Saturday morning: “The time has come for change!! Our current leadership needs to step aside so new blood can take their places!” It was time. Novogratz previously supported Democratic challenger Rep. Dean Phillips of Minnesota before he dropped out, before withdrawing support for Biden as one of many donors who are abandoning him.” CNBC previously reported that certain major donors to the party, like Disney heiress Abigail Disney, have put off any future donations until President Donald Trump withdraws from the race, prompting CNBC’s report of multiple polls showing Biden trailing behind Trump after an awkward debate performance against Trump on June 27. These polls include those conducted by New York Times/Siena College and Wall Street Journal that indicate Biden may be losing ground following this failed debate performance. His debate performance will long be remembered for moments where he faltered over words or failed to string coherent sentences together coherently, or spontaneously pausing mid-answer as though trying to gather his thoughts. “It wasn’t anything serious; I just felt overwhelmed.” Biden told ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos during a Friday interview: “I did not pay attention to my instincts in terms of preparation, leading up to what became a poor night,” adding: “but the Lord Almighty wasn’t coming down and telling me to get out.” However, Biden asserts that his presence remains vital and plans on entering the 2024 race again:
