Now that the Purple and Gold franchise have ample chances to acquire Warriors star Klay Thompson or former Philly guard Buddy Hield this week, they instead opt to sign veteran DeMar DeRozan who recently revealed his time has come to a close in Chicago this summer.
But Los Angeles may no longer be considered as an attractive location for NBA stars seeking to contend for league supremacy, leading the Lakers to try to add players this offseason to return the franchise back to its former glories. Still, in order to remain relevant and potentially return back up the rankings in future seasons.
Reports indicate that L.A. club is looking for a shooter or another high-end scorer to complement LeBron James, Austin Reaves and Anthony Davis’ offensive efforts on offense. At present it seems former Bulls guard Eric Gordon may be just what’s needed.

Report: According to Wojespn, The Lakers appear close to reaching an agreement for 6-time NBA All Star Demar Derozan’s acquisition by signing him through free agency or trade, per @Wojespn and Hoop Cenral (@TheHoopCenral). Pic.twitter.com/seo9dmV6JS @TheHoopCenral July 5, 2024

DeRozan hails from Los Angeles and graduated from USC; during this year in Chicago he averaged 24 points per match and became one of six All-Star players, providing big numbers that any NBA club could utilize; which explains why teams such as the Lakers remain interested in his services.
According to General Manager Rob Pelinka, his club remains aggressive when it comes to updating their roster despite recent setbacks with potential suitors. Pelinka stated to The Athletic that they will always remain aggressive when trying to add roster upgrades: “I think we will remain relentless when looking into potential solutions,” as reported.
Pelinka said “this season marks our efforts at being mindful of every avenue available to us to enhance the roster, so right now we are exploring those avenues.” This process would continue in coming days and even into Vegas where general managers meet and make deals, though “we intend on staying aggressive”.
The 34-year-old forward is being pursued by three NBA teams – Heat, Kings and Bucks. However, making any decision will depend upon several pieces falling into place at once in order for those destinations to make sense for him.
DeRozan currently has the choice between Miami, Sacramento and Los Angeles as potential destinations for his next move.
Reports by Miami Herald indicate DeMar has already met with Heat officials to explore wearing red jersey next season, though complications might threaten negotiations for veteran.
To execute this trade successfully, the Florida club would need to send off one or more players with high salaries to clubs with cap space in exchange for DeRozan – though popular rapper Ma$e doesn’t see Miami as suitable.
