There was once an old saying – you get what you pay for in life, whether its an apple pie or even just some new flooring for your living space! In modern terms this equates to around PS2,000. Shea Weber will join Pavel Datsyuk, Jeremy Roenick, Natalie Darwitz and Krissy Wendell as members of the 2024 Hockey Hall Of Fame Induction class on Monday night – as David Poile and Colin Campbell enter as builders. Since helping lead underdog Montreal Canadiens to Stanley Cup glory two seasons prior, Weber’s career ended prematurely due to injuries. Since that victory he hasn’t seen action at any level again until joining forces with Poile & Campbell as builders on Tuesday. “My love for hockey remains strong,” he declared during his address, even if his body hadn’t held out as long. At 39 years old, the 39-year-old earned 589 points across 1038 regular season contests between Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators before adding 42 more during 97 playoff appearances. “Playing this sport has given me much to be grateful for,” Weber observed, not only the big moments such as making playoffs or winning Olympic gold but also in smaller, seemingly routine moments that count for so much more than expected. “These friendships form over long plane and bus rides, team dinners and break down sessions in the trainer’s room. An experienced player often steps up to show you what it means to become an accomplished professional player.” Thank you to all those players for showing the importance of hard work and commitment.” Datsyuk amassed 918 points over 953 games with Detroit Red Wings. Datsyuk earned 113 playoff points across 157 playoff appearances that led him to Stanley Cup victories in 2002 and 2008. A player known for his majestic skill, Datsyuk also was honored four times with Lady Byng Trophy awards as most gentlemanly player, Selke Trophy honors three times as defensive forward of the year and featured prominently with KHL after leaving Detroit in 2016. After inducting with Weber into Hall of Fame his inaugural eligibility year (2016) he also returned for five KHL seasons until leaving in 2016. Datsyuk represented his nation at five consecutive Olympic games, earning gold at 2018 and bronze at 2002. “Being honored to join the Hockey Hall of Fame is an extraordinary privilege that I never dreamed of receiving,” Datsyuk commented on being inducted. “Roenick, 54 years old at the time, amassed 1,216 points over 1,363 games between his time with Chicago Blackhawks, Phoenix Coyotes, Philadelphia Flyers, Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks. Roenick earned 122 playoff points (53 goals and 69 assists). Although he earned silver at the 2002 Olympic Games, it took 12 years for his name to be inducted. “This game has been such an integral part of my life for so long now,” Roenick once declared. “Wendell, 43, won two Olympic medals – silver in 2002 and bronze in 2006. Additionally, this forward from Brooklyn Park, Minnesota collected six medals at world championships to become the first U.S. captain to ever claim tournament glory.” “What I loved best about hockey was not winning championships or medals,” Wendell noted, but rather meeting people along the way. Darwitz has represented his country at three Winter Olympic Games – 2002, 2006 and 2010 – winning two silvers and one bronze medal each time. St. Paul native Darwitz competed at eight different world tournaments and earned three gold medals during her time there. “My mom realized right away I wasn’t your typical child; on my fifth birthday my blonde French braids made their appearance at a hockey rink in St. Paul.” “Campbell has held many roles within hockey: as player, coach and, since 1992, senior executive vice president with the NHL.” He played an instrumental role in developing the National Hockey League’s video review hub that is now an industry standard across North American sporting. Additionally, this 71-year old won the Stanley Cup as an associate coach of New York Rangers back in 1994. Campbell stated, “Over the years I’ve spoken with general managers and board of governors.” Now is his first experience working alongside such an impressive group; and as he looks out at this collection it both inspires him and worries him at once. “Poile, 74, began his NHL executive career with Atlanta and Calgary Flames during the 1970s before taking his talents to Washington Capitals General Manager Jim Dolan in 1982. Subban trade to Montreal: one of Poile’s key moves! In 2023 he officially retired. But hockey remains close to him: it provides so many other benefits than just winning championships! Poile was honored to join Nashville Predators expansion franchise as General Manager until retirement slated in 2023 – one major trade move he made was trading Weber to Montreal for Subban in June 2016. “Hockey has given me and my family so much more.” he said of hockey:
