While they might feel happy to do it, most don’t. At times like these it helps having someone to rely on who understands. The Tampa Bay Lightning have left Florida ahead of Hurricane Milton to practice for their season opening match-up against Carolina Hurricanes this Friday in Raleigh. Milton is projected to make landfall near Tampa Bay Wednesday evening as a Category 4 hurricane. As of 2 p.m. it had maximum sustained winds of 155 mph. St. Petersburg ballpark has been set up for 10,000 visitors with cots placed directly onto its playing surface. At a college level, American Athletic Conference announced that Memphis-South Florida game at Raymond James Stadium has been postponed until Saturday from Friday. South Florida plans on moving its team later Tuesday when coach Alex Golesh says their coach. Coach Alex Golesh added they plan on monitoring conditions after Milton passes and adjust accordingly; UCF Big 12 home game against Cincinnati remains scheduled for 3:30 pm that Saturday afternoon. UCF made several adjustments, such as moving its home volleyball match against Colorado from Wednesday evening to Sunday; UCF and Arizona swapped locations of Thursday’s women’s soccer game from Orlando to Houston; as a result of this eventful week for UCF sports programs, various other sporting events were postponed or moved as needed. Arizona was scheduled to play Houston and Colorado that same day; thus preventing both from traveling across state lines for Sunday’s games, and all four agreed upon playing Thursday’s match in Texas instead of Colorado on that same day. UCF men’s soccer game with Marshall has also been moved up from Friday evening to Sunday. There were also postponed college events such as Florida Atlantic-Rice women’s soccer match in Boca Raton that was scheduled for Thursday; now scheduled to happen on Oct 17 instead. Meanwhile, LPGA announced they are postponing qualifying for their Q-Series that was originally set to commence Sunday and run through Oct 18 at Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice Florida; their statement stated their priority as protecting athletes, caddies, staff volunteers and local community are their top “priorities.” The LPGA announced it will provide an update following Hurricane Irma. “Our thoughts are with Florida as they prepare for this storm,” according to an LPGA statement. Numerous high school sporting events scheduled around Florida were called off; officials in some counties waited to see whether football games scheduled for Thursday and Friday could continue as scheduled; The Associated Press contributed this report.
