Sally Field has shared the painful details of her experience having an illegal abortion as a teenager with the hopes that it may encourage voters to back Vice President Kamala Harris during next month’s presidential elections. At first blush, she may seem emotional while recalling an embarrassing procedure she underwent when she was 17 – prior to landing what became one of her breakout roles on comedy series ‘Gidget. Field shared that she felt she was powerless over her life and finances. Although she graduated high school without being encouraged by anyone to attend college, there had never been any discussions regarding that option either. “Suddenly I found out I was pregnant!” Field reflected. Field traveled with her mother and family doctor to Tijuana, Mexico for the abortion procedure she paid for with cash – it was “horrendously painful and life-altering”, Field told reporters later.
