Some of the NBA’s greatest talents were raised close by its league. Editor’s Picks1 RelatedDespite no father/son duo having ever appeared together on an NBA court before now, LeBron James expressed longingly his wish to compete alongside Bronny James. One part of LeBron’s wish came true on Monday when Los Angeles Lakers selected Bronny with their 55th pick in the 2024 NBA draft; two came true two days later during LeBron and Bronny’s sharing-court time at Phoenix Suns preseason game during second quarter action on Sunday afternoon.LeBron James. Here are other father-son tandems who have reached the league: Dell Curry, Stephen Curry and Seth CurryDell Curry was one of the greatest 3-point shooters of his era and earned 1993-94 Sixth Man of the Year recognition during 16 seasons with the NBA, shooting 40% from deep nine times (including an astounding 47.6% mark during 1998-99!). His son Stephen became one of the greatest shooters ever. Seth joined Dell Curry after their father Dell passed away from cancer at only 32. Curry still holds Charlotte Hornets records for most games played and 2-point field goals made, along with 2-pointers made during his nine years. Stephen and Seth Curry often attended shootarounds alongside him during those nine seasons — following in their father’s footsteps by becoming elite 3-point shooters themselves. Since entering the league in 2013, Seth has shot less than 40% from 3-point range over one full season. Stephen has not hit 40 percent from long range on more than two occasions in 14 NBA seasons and counting, and boasts four championship wins, 10 All-Star appearances, All-NBA honors and two MVP awards with the Golden State Warriors. In 2022, LeBron became the NBA all-time leader for 3-point field goals made. LeBron faced his brother LeBron during NBA All-Star Weekend 2019 in Charlotte North Carolina in a 3-point shooting competition and came away victorious. Stephen finished second while Seth did not advance beyond the first round.Dell and Steph Curry are considered two of the great 3-point shooters in NBA history – Paul Rutherford-USA TODAY Sports (Photo by Jaimie McGregor-USA TODAY Sports). Joe Bryant (Kobe Bryant’s father), spent eight seasons as an NBA player. Joe had originally been selected by the Warriors before being traded to Philadelphia 76ers prior to beginning play in 1977 NBA Finals and spent another three seasons there before moving onto San Diego Clippers for three more campaigns before retiring after 28 seasons of pro sports competition. Kobe finished his last NBA season with Houston before heading overseas and playing professionally in France and Italy where much of his childhood took place. When Kobe was initially selected at No. 13 by Charlotte Hornets in 1996 draft, Lakers quickly acquired him through trading. He spent 20 seasons in Los Angeles, winning five championships while appearing 18 All-Star Games and 11 first team All-NBA selections. Rick Barry (son of Brent Barry) was one of only a select group to participate both the NBA and ABA; becoming an All-Star 12 times and All-NBA 6 times before becoming one-time Champion himself. Brent Barry averaged at least 20 points in 12 of 14 seasons he played, including scoring 35 in one season alone in 1966-67. Like his father before him, Brent Barry also won two championships during that span with San Antonio Spurs. Mychal Thompson (born 1960 ) made history in 1978 as the first foreign player ever chosen with the top overall pick in an NBA Draft, becoming an All Star and NBA Champion with them team. Klay Thompson would soon follow this historic achievement when selected No 1 overall by Philadelphia during their championship run of 2007. Mychal Thompson became known as Klay after being chosen No. 1. Mychal spent eight seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers before being traded to both San Antonio Spurs and then back to LA Lakers where he won back-to-back championships as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s backup player in 1988 and 1989. Klay Thompson has spent his entire NBA career with the Warriors, winning four championships and making five All-Star appearances during that span. Klay ranks in the Top 10 all time for 3-point field goals made, while his father made just one three in his NBA career. Tim Hardaway Jr. averaged at least 20 points in five of 13 seasons while playing on the Warriors “Run TMC” trio of the early 1990s, passing along his scoring prowess to 9 out of his first 10 NBA seasons and averaged double figures 9 times out. Bill Walton (and later Luke Walton), too, found great success both college and NBA-wide; winning two championships during 10 years while averaging 18 points, 15 rebounds, and 3.4 blocks during Portland Blazers championship run in 1977! Luke Walton followed in Bill Walton footsteps when his son took to playing basketball professionally as Bill Walton had done. Luke Walton played 10 seasons as a reserve with the Los Angeles Lakers before winning back-to-back championships as an assist man during that span. Gary Payton amassed 17 years in professional basketball as an All-Star or All-NBA selection plus winning Defensive Player of the Year Awards during that period as well. Gary Payton II appeared in 23 games during Miami Heat’s 2006 championship run, playing 24.3 minutes per game on average. Although Gary has yet to earn All-NBA or All-Star honors himself, his defensive prowess and title win speaks for themselves. Gary II sustained an injury during Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinals and thus missed their conference finals during Golden State Warriors 2022 title run. Arvydas Sabonis made his triumphant return in Game 2 of the NBA Finals and averaged 18.5 minutes per game during that series, playing seven seasons total in total for the league and showing his unique set of skills despite being an undersized big man. Arvydas Sabonis was widely recognized for his outstanding passing center skills during his time with the Trail Blazers during the late ’90s/early 2000s era, contributing heavily to their late 2000s/early 2001s successes. Sabonis passed these skills down to Domantas Sabonis who earned three All-Star selections as well as all eight All-NBA recognition in 2014. Last season alone he averaged 19.4 points along with 13.7 rebounds and 8.2 assists per game for averaged 19.44 points himself (Photo by Rocky Widner/NBAE via Getty Images).
