FBI agents conducted house raids of New York City police Commissioner Ray Kelly (R), as well as at least three deputies of Mayor Eric Adams (D), multiple outlets reported Thursday.

On Wednesday, two people informed The Associated Press under condition of anonymity that the FBI seized electronic devices from three homes belonging to First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright; Philip Banks, deputy mayor for public safety; and Timothy Pearson a mayoral adviser and former NYPD official – two individuals working inside these organizations had told them about this act of seizure by law enforcement agents.

New York City Police Commissioner Edward Caban’s devices were also taken, according to one person speaking on condition of anonymity and reported by the AP. Caban is an NYPD veteran appointed police commissioner by Adams last summer.

Lisa Zornberg, City Hall’s chief counsel, informed The Hill investigators have not indicated to them any investigations targeting Mayor De Blasio or any members of his administration.

“[The mayor has made clear] that all members of his team must abide by the law,” Zornberg wrote.

Adams denied any wrongdoing in an interview with Fox 5 New York TV on Thursday: “Throughout my public career, my message has always been one of abiding by the law and doing things legally.

His office vowed to comply with any investigation or submission that comes their way, Fox 5 New York reported.

The Hill reached out to both the NYPD and FBI to request further comment on this story.

In response to questions by Associated Press (AP), NYPD released a statement noting its awareness and cooperation in any investigations underway, without providing further details of them.

Adams had his home raided by the FBI as part of an investigation conducted by the U.S. attorney’s office in Brooklyn back in February.

As part of an ongoing federal corruption probe focused on Mayor de Blasio’s 2021 election campaign allegedly colluding with Turkish authorities for illegal donations from abroad, their homes had already been searched months earlier as part of this probe.

Federal agents confiscated Adams’ phone and iPad while leaving an event in Manhattan last November; later this summer he, his campaign arm and City Hall all received subpoenas issued by federal prosecutors for information related to those events.

Sources familiar with the matter told The Hill this week’s raids may or may not have any relation to Turkey-related probes.

This week’s searches represent yet another instance of federal scrutiny of Adams and his inner circle. Adams first assumed office as mayor of Brooklyn in 2022 after serving previously as its borough president and state senator.

Pearson was among those searched in this latest raid and is facing numerous sexual harassment lawsuits and an independent probe related to an altercation at a shelter for homeless migrants, according to The Associated Press (AP). His attorney did not immediately reply to their newswire’s requests for comment.

Wright lives with David Banks, the city schools chancellor and brother of Philip and Terence Banks (both consultants). According to an attorney representing Philip, both homes had been searched this week as per Philip’s lawyer who informed newswires of this development.

News outlet The City was the first to report these searches at Wright and Banks’ homes.

The Associated Press contributed.
