Darlene Walz remains fully supportive of Tim Walz’s quest to become vice president, even as other family members appear divided about it, she told NBC News during an initial phone conversation on Thursday.Darlene emphasized her dislike for public scrutiny and expressed confidence that Tim will eventually reside at White House. Family divisions over Walz’s selection as Democratic vice presidential nominee were thrust into public view last week when an online post and comments by his estranged older brother Jeff made headlines and received significant media coverage. Jeff posted: ‘Haven’t spoken with you for 8 years.” This comment from him garnered coverage by multiple outlets: I disagree wholeheartedly with his ideology. My family were not given notice that Jeff Walz had been chosen and were denied security shortly afterwards,” wrote the elder Walz in one Facebook comment, later noting he considered publicly endorsing former President Donald Trump and made a $20 contribution to his 2016 presidential campaign campaign, according to public records. Jeff Walz made this donation of himself. One official noted: “It’s been fun and humorous for us,” stated Gov. Walz as part of an attack against them; moreover he’s used family issues as part of his stump speech, often calling for greater unity both politically and at dinner tables. “Some of us with white hair are old enough to remember when Thanksgiving dinner could include watching a Steelers game without constant complaints about politics or bickering between family members,” Walz stated at an August campaign event in Rochester, Pennsylvania. “Walz is well known to voters living in rural America and Midwest swing states for her position that we can disagree politically but still enjoy ourselves together,” according to one campaign official. Virtually every family has had some sort of difficulty since Trump entered office, including Walz’s own family, according to one source. Even so, Walz does not appear keen to keep the spotlight focused solely on them – though that has not stopped people from trying! “He has spoken on Fox News before, often joked he would get on there to reach out to his extended family – something which has always been important in his life,” according to one official.
