John Keim, ESPN Staff Writer Sep 5, 2024 at 10:47 AM ETCloseJohn Keim currently covers the Washington Commanders for ESPN after covering them since 1994 for Journal Newspapers and later Washington Examiner. He joined ESPN in 2013 after previously working at both publications. He has written/co-written four books. John Keim can also be heard on ESPN Richmond radio’s ‘The John Keim Report, and can be followed on Twitter @john_keimASHBURN, Va. — The Commanders have terminated an employee following video footage in which they made comments that suggested team players were anti-gay; accused Cowboys owner Jerry Jones of racism; and described NFL commissioner Roger Goodell as a 50 million dollar puppet. “Rael Enteen, Washington’s vice president for content for four years prior, also criticized fans by calling them a group of “mouth breathers. Washington announced Enteen had been fired via their spokesperson, though no further comment could be provided at that time. On Wednesday after O’Keefe Media Group video was shown publicly online platforms such as social media. According to the video, Enteen had met his undercover target through Hinge dating app and met her twice at restaurants around D.C. In June. the media team issued a statement, promising an investigation; less than 24 hours after, however, they fired Enteen for “improper conduct.” “The language in the video goes against our values at Commanders organization,” according to an initial statement released by them. An undercover reporter told them that over half their roster comprised white religious individuals who held beliefs opposing gay rights; that God told them it is okay not to love homosexuals (this interpretation by undercover reporter). “I don’t buy into any of this,” Enteen responded, adding, “I don’t believe the NFL commissioner hates gay or black people. “Jerry Jones, who really runs the NFL, I believe strongly dislikes gay and black people.” Teen, who spent two seasons as an offensive lineman with the Jets before coming to Washington, described their social justice initiatives as being effective; adding, however, they weren’t done out of kindness alone. “George Floyd changed the game,” Enteen stated, adding, “it is done for financial gain – as any corporation does – above anything else. As such, because the league makes so much money they are able to prioritise DEI for good publicity reasons by not prioritising DEI properly. “Enteen also stated in his video that many fans are high school educated alcoholics known as mouth breathers. Furthermore, Enteen stated some players are “dumb as hell”, as well as how some who used to be smart often lose it due to being hit too many times in the head. Enteen also noted those whose lives had been “thrown around a few times” were more vulnerable to conspiracy theories, adding they are especially susceptible to them after traumatized experiences. He told an anonymous reporter – only heard through the video footage – his job is selling hope: three years prior there had been videos showing pipes leaking at then FedEx Stadium with fans reporting smelly sewer smells emanating from it; Enteen tweeted out saying it was all just water leakage instead; “that,” according to Enteen was state run media at work he said “state-run media!”
